Barry A Franklin, Ph.D. FACSM, is the director of cardiac rehabilitation and exercise laboratories at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan, a position he has held since 1985. He is also professor of physiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He is a past president of the American College of Sports Medicine (1999-2000), and the former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. One of the most prolific writers and respected health/fitness professionals in the field, Dr. Franklin has authored or co-authored over 300 scholastic papers, abstracts, chapters, and books.


Dr. Simon R. Dixon received his medical training at the University of Auckland School of Medicine in Auckland, New Zealand. After completing fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Greenlane Hospital in Auckland, he moved to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak in 1999 to further his interventional training. He has been on the academic faculty at Beaumont since 2001 and currently serves as the chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is also a Professor of Medicine at Oakland University School of Medicine.

Dr. Dixon specializes in the treatment of complex coronary artery disease and is nationally regarded for his research contributions in acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, percutaneous circulatory support devices, and coronary atherosclerosis. In 2015, he was awarded the inaugural Dorothy Susan Timmis Endowed Chair of Cardiology.
