Joanne Evans MEd, RN, PMHCNS-BC, has been a nurse for 50 years. As an advanced practice nurse, she has had the opportunity to practice in a wide variety of settings including emergency rooms, outpatient and inpatient hospital programs, private practice, academic institutions and national nursing organizations. She was a member of the leadership team at the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and in that role, she collaborated with nurses throughout the US and the international nursing community. She has authored several articles in peer-reviewed nursing journals on the benefits of plant-based nutrition and is on the Medical Advisory Board for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C. Joanne witnessed firsthand the impact of chronic disease on patients and their families. In addition to the physical toll, she is also familiar with the emotional and economic consequences of these diseases. Heart disease, diabetes, and obesity (as well as many other chronic diseases) can all potentially be reversed when plant-based nutrition is practiced.Joanne is familiar with the challenges of sharing such transformative information—even when you know it can help people become healthier and happier. This book will illustrate how successful nurses have shared their knowledge about plant-based nutrition to help family, friends, colleagues and the public prevent and reverse chronic disease. It will cover a wide range of topics including ;research on chronic diseases, what Americans tend to eat, techniques to use with community groups, organizations and in academic settings, challenges people may experience with the transition to plant-based nutrition (including finances, fast food and lack of support), how to help people identify where they are in the change process, potential plant-based topics for presentations to a wide range of community groups, specific educational material to teach in a 21-day plant-based program, resources to share with others including books, websites, videos, apps, testimonials, certification programs and more
