In the fall of 2012, a group of Iowa State University design students worked with students and faculty from St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge, Iowa to develop a green master plan for their schoolyard. The underlying theme of the project was to create and outdoor environment for immersive experiences that support environmental literacy. Blueprint for a Green Campus: Environmental Literacy by Design discusses the successes and challenges involved with cultivating a new vision for environmental stewardship for this K-12 school.
